Desonate®

Desonate® (desonide) Gel 0.05% is a twice-a-day medication for mild to moderate Atopic Dermatitis in patients 3 months of age and older.

Preferred over other vehicles: In a vehicle preference study, Hydrogel was favored over foam, cream, oil, lotion, and ointment.
  • 2/3 of subjects would request Hydrogel for future prescriptions
  • Preference for vehicle can improve adherence to the regimen

Easy to apply, easy to comply: The Desonate formulation is non-greasy, soothing to the skin, and easy to spread, making it suitable for use on multiple body areas

Desonate was shown to moisturize and improve the skin barrier: Desonate provided significant moisturization as early as 1 week of treatment, with sustained benefit through Week 4 (measured by corneometry). Desonate rapidly and significantly reduces loss of moisture from the skin, indicating improved barrier function (measured by transepidermal water loss).

Proven efficacy:
Reduction in signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis (erythema, itching, burning, scaling) in as little as 1 week.

Tolerability that patients will appreciate:
In a 21-day cumulative irritation study of 213 healthy subjects, no significant irritation with Desonate was observed.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Desonate Gel is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in patients 3 months of age and older.

As with other corticosteroids, therapy should be discontinued when control is achieved. Unless directed by a physician, the treated skin area should not be bandaged so as to be occlusive. Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids, including Desonate Gel, has produced HPA axis suppression, for which pediatric patients are more susceptible.

In clinical trials, the most frequent adverse events included headache (2%), application site burning (1%), rash (1%), and application site pruritus (<1%). The safety of Desonate Gel has not been established beyond 4 weeks of use.

Desonate Gel is contraindicated in those patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation.

Desonate Gel is for topical use only. Desonate Gel is not for ophthalmic, oral, or intravaginal use

Desonate Gel is not indicated for the treatment of diaper dermatitis
